v30.5 The Reach & Reliability Update

September and October in one release: new places to find NitroIDE, daily publishing, trust signals, and a full-site readability and reliability pass.

  • NEW Directory listings: NitroIDE is now listed on 9 software directories — DevHunt, AlternativeTo, SaaSHub, SourceForge, directree, IndieTools, Fazier, NoLogin and TinyShelf — with a redesigned "Where developers find NitroIDE" badge row on the homepage.
  • NEW Daily publishing: new articles and updates ship every day across X, LinkedIn, Peerlist, Hashnode and Coder Legion, mirrored on the Ecosystem Pulse page. The blog library is now 42 articles.
  • NEW Trust and support: Trustpilot profile claimed with public reviews, Ko-fi donations live, and GitHub Sponsors approved.
  • UPDATE Light-mode readability: the whole site is readable in light mode now — proper light values for brand and code colors, contact inputs that no longer render black-on-black, and fixed palette, footer, modal and stop-button contrast, plus dark variants for all 42 article accent colors.
  • UPDATE Deep audit pass: a 68-file audit and fix batch — sitemap trimmed to 91 real URLs, iPad claims corrected to frontend-only, the RSS feed fixed so all 42 items parse, icon fonts cut from 403KB to 19KB, and the service worker and forms hardened.
  • FIX Directory badges: badges render again after a browser-isolation header blocked cross-origin images — the header now uses credentialless, keeping WebContainer WASM working.
  • FIX Templates buttons: templates "Open in NitroIDE" buttons show readable dark text on their light background in both themes — an undefined CSS variable had made the text blend into the button.

v30 The AI Update

A full AI pair-programmer rebuilt from the ground up: it picks the right file itself, edits surgically, and never touches what you didn't ask for.

  • NEW Smart file picker: the AI sees all three files and chooses the right one from your request — CSS fixes go to CSS, structure to HTML, logic to JS. No more wrong-file edits.
  • NEW Surgical edits: changes land exactly where they belong via find/replace blocks — never full-file rewrites. Preview every change in a side-by-side diff before applying.
  • NEW Bring your own key: Groq, Gemini, OpenRouter and OpenAI supported with auto-detection. Your keys stay in your browser — they never touch our servers.
  • NEW Auto provider fallback: when one provider hits its rate limit, the AI silently switches to your next saved key. No more dead ends.
  • UPDATE Trust controls: auto-apply is off by default, every apply takes a checkpoint with one-click Restore, and ambiguous edits are refused instead of guessed.
  • UPDATE Hardened engine: 70+ adversarial tests — ambiguous matches blocked, malicious output validated, XSS escaped, checkpoints cover all files.
  • NEW SambaNova support: back via a Cloudflare Worker proxy (SambaNova blocks browsers directly). Your key passes through the proxy but is never stored or logged.
  • UPDATE Decluttered workspace: top bar slimmed to Projects, AI, Prefs, Compile — Share, Embed, History, Tabs and Install moved into a newly categorized Prefs menu (Command, Editor, View, Project, Appearance). Header tightened to 42px, editor gutters narrowed.
  • UPDATE Beta bar removed: the "active development" announcement bar is gone from the site header — NitroIDE has real users now.

v29 The Performance Update

A full vendor and code audit: 3.5MB of dead weight removed, zero features touched.

  • UPDATE 3.5MB lighter: removed 9 unused Monaco language packs (1.7MB), 77 unneeded editor languages, the JSON language service, and two icon font weights with zero uses.
  • UPDATE Leaner loading: 76 pages no longer request dead icon stylesheets; the service worker precache list trimmed to match.
  • FIX Dead code removed: pruned unused functions from the main script; the options-menu Share item now opens the share dialog instead of the old toast-only flow.
October 2026

v28 The Sharing & Templates Update

Templates get a real gallery and sharing gets a real dialog: find the right starter faster, and send your workspace anywhere with one tap.

  • NEW Browsable template gallery: search across all 12 templates and filter by Websites, Apps & Tools or Experiments — every card now shows a live preview thumbnail.
  • NEW Share dialog: the Share button opened nothing but a toast — now you get a proper dialog with your workspace title, a copyable link, native OS share, and one-tap X / WhatsApp / Telegram intents.
  • UPDATE Richer link cards: every template page now unfurls with its own screenshot instead of the generic banner when shared on social.
  • NEW Two new template pages: Countdown Timer and Link in Bio finally get full pages with live previews, joining the other ten.
  • POLISH Share dialog refinements: real X / WhatsApp / Telegram brand icons, an evenly aligned button grid, and a slimmer Copy button matched to the link field — plus a more compact gallery search bar.

v27 The Mobile Editor Update

A mobile pass over the workspace: the command palette is now reachable on touchscreens, the PWA install flow is cleaner, and popups stop spilling past the screen edge.

  • NEW Command Palette in the options menu: the palette was Ctrl+K-only and unreachable on touchscreens — it's now one tap away in the Prefs menu.
  • UPDATE PWA install flow: the install prompt moved from a floating button into the workspace header, and a new "Install App" menu item guides iOS users through Share → Add to Home Screen.
  • FIX Palette viewport overflow: the command palette used mismatched viewport units and spilled past the bottom edge on phones and short desktop windows — it now always fits, with the list scrolling internally.
  • FIX Options menu overflow: the Prefs dropdown had no height limit and ran off-screen on shorter windows — it now caps at the viewport height and scrolls.
  • UPDATE No more iOS zoom jump: the palette search box is 16px on mobile, so Safari no longer auto-zooms on focus.

v26 The Creator Backend Update

NitroIDE's forms now run on a fully self-hosted backend: a Cloudflare Worker with a private submission archive, a live admin dashboard, a "how did you hear about us" survey, and file attachments on the contact page.

  • NEW Self-hosted form backend: contact and feedback forms now run on a Cloudflare Worker with Resend delivery — no third-party form service ever sees or stores your messages.
  • NEW Submission archive: every message is archived with metadata (page, country, timestamp) and aggregated into live stats.
  • NEW Private admin dashboard: token-gated, unlisted dashboard with totals, source stats, submission list, CSV export, search, one-click delete and reply, and live auto-refresh.
  • NEW "How did you hear about us?" survey: optional question on the feedback modal and contact page, so word-of-mouth sources are finally visible.
  • NEW Contact attachments: attach up to 3 files (3 MB each) to contact messages — forwarded with the email and archived.
  • UPDATE Dashboard realtime: the service worker no longer caches API responses, and the dashboard refreshes itself every 20 seconds while open.
  • UPDATE Security hardening: branch protection on the repository (no force-pushes, no deletions) and a report-only Content Security Policy observing every page.

v25 The Performance & Polish Update

A focused quality pass: zero layout shift, a more accessible editor, honest copy, stronger article SEO, and a PWA cache fix so returning visitors always get the latest version.

  • FIX Zero layout shift on Ecosystem: the header now reserves its exact measured space (116px desktop / 194px mobile), taking mobile CLS from 0.255 to ~0.
  • UPDATE Editor accessibility pass: mobile accessibility score 78 → 95 with labeled controls, proper command-palette roles, and a main landmark.
  • FIX PWA cache refresh: bumped the service-worker cache so returning visitors always receive the latest site instead of stale cached files.
  • UPDATE Honest copy: removed dead visitor counters from landing pages and softened unverifiable "fastest" claims.
  • UPDATE Article SEO: canonical, Open Graph, Twitter-card, and BlogPosting metadata on all articles.
  • FIX Icon loading: icon fonts now use font-display: swap — no more invisible-text flash while icons load.
  • FIX Footer heading structure: corrected heading order (h4 → h3) for a proper document outline; visually identical.
  • UPDATE Preview sandbox hardened: the live preview no longer shares an origin with the site, and every preview message is sanitized — malicious share links can't touch your saved projects.
  • UPDATE Security headers live: HSTS, content-type protection, and referrer policy are now served on every page.
  • FIX Mobile scroll lock: fixed the whole editor screen shifting and bouncing on touch devices; internal panes still scroll normally.
  • FIX Blog feed repaired: fixed a broken feed tag — the RSS feed validates again with every article included.
  • UPDATE New contact page: a dedicated contact page with a working message form, linked in the site footer.
  • UPDATE Fresh comparison content: a CodeSandbox deep-dive article and a CodePen-vs-CodeSandbox comparison page.

v23.0 The Serverless Update

A monumental architectural upgrade transforming NitroIDE from a single sandbox into a full-blown local operating system with zero-latency sharing.

  • NEW Project Manager Dashboard: Create, manage, and seamlessly switch between multiple local workspaces without overwriting your progress.
  • NEW Serverless Workspace Sharing: Instantly share entire codebases. Workspaces are ultra-compressed into the URL via LZ-String—no databases or logins required.
  • NEW Dynamic IntelliSense: The Monaco engine now supports React JSX natively and automatically fetches TypeScript definitions when you inject CDNs like jQuery or GSAP.
  • NEW Drag-and-Drop Import: Drag .zip folders or code files directly onto the IDE, or use the mobile-friendly native file picker to instantly unpack projects.
  • UPDATE Zero-Day Security Sandbox: Hardened the live preview iframe to strictly protect your local storage engine from malicious shared links.
  • UPDATE UI Polish: Automatically injected custom premium scrollbars into the live code previews so the interface stays gorgeous even when overflowing.
  • FIX Engine Stability: Patched critical edge-cases preventing the IDE from crashing when deleting active files or loading corrupted shared URLs.
  • FIX Drag-and-Drop Shield: Prevented the browser from navigating away and wiping local data when a file is accidentally dropped outside the IDE window.
  • FIX Persistent Settings: Editor font-size preferences are now properly saved to local storage and persist across hard refreshes.
  • FIX API Rate-Limiting: Optimized the live visitor counter polling interval to drastically reduce network requests and prevent backend bans.

v22.5 The Growth Update

A massive under-the-hood overhaul focused entirely on Search Engine Optimization, web accessibility, and hardware-accelerated performance to help scale our user base.

  • NEW SEO Landing Pages: Deployed 5 highly-targeted entry points (React Playground, Monaco Sandbox, etc.) to capture specific developer search intents.
  • NEW PWA & Open Graph: Injected Progressive Web App meta tags and Social Share cards so the IDE installs natively on mobile and unfurls beautifully on Discord and X.
  • NEW FAQ Rich Snippets: Wove FAQPage JSON-LD schema into the documentation to capture Google's "People Also Ask" search modules.
  • UPDATE Hardware Acceleration: Offloaded heavy CSS gradient animations to the GPU using will-change, ensuring a buttery 60FPS experience even on lower-end hardware.
  • UPDATE Perfect Accessibility: Surgically added aria-label tags to all icon-only UI buttons across the platform, achieving a flawless 100/100 Lighthouse A11y score.
  • UPDATE Technical SEO: Reconfigured robots.txt and the XML sitemap to cleanly route web crawlers through the new optimized site architecture.
